APSU This Week: G.H.O.S.T. moves its haunts back to center of campus

This week’s highlights include Austin Peay’s popular trick-or-treating event, a Tony-winning director, a Brexit panel … and you’d better secure your Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert tickets NOW.
G.H.O.S.T. coming on Sunday
G.H.O.S.T. – aka Greater Halloween Options for Safe Trick-or-Treating – is moving back to the middle of campus this year, relocating from Fortera Stadium to the Morgan University Center Plaza (and throughout campus).
This year’s trick-or-treating event – which is free and open to the public – is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.
APSU clubs and organizations – as well as groups from the community – dress up, hand out candy and play games with children from Clarksville and the surrounding area.
G.H.O.S.T. is sponsored by APSU’s Student Government Association.

Freddie Ashley visits campus for Q&A
On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) will host a public question and answer session with Tony-winning director and Acuff chair Freddie Ashley. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be at 2 p.m. in the Trahern Theatre.
Ashley was appointed artistic director of Actor’s Express in Atlanta in July 2007. At Actors Express he has directed such hits as “Rent,” “The Rocky Horror Show,” “End of the Rainbow,” “Six Degrees of Separation,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and “Grey Gardens.” He also directed “Cabaret” for the Atlanta Lyric Theatre, “The Last Schwartz” for the Jewish Theatre of the South and “Camelot” for the Aurora Theatre.
Ashley is coming to APSU to direct the world premiere of world-renowned playwright John Patrick Shanley’s new collection of one act plays, “Five Savory Dishes.” This collection of plays is being produced by the APSU Department of Theatre & Dance as part of the 2019-2020 Acuff season, which also features a Drama Desk-nominated director/choreographer, a Jeff-nominated actor and the top flying effects company in the U.S. for the spring musical “Addams Family.”

APSU hosting Brexit panel to help make sense of historic event
At 5 p.m. on Oct. 22, Austin Peay’s Honors Program and APSU’s President’s Emerging Leaders Program (PELP) will host a special panel discussion in the campus’ Honors Commons to help educate the local community on Brexit’s potentially global impact.
The panel discussion, which is open to the public, is designed to provide attendees with an understanding of how and why Brexit has occurred, and what effect it will have on Europe and the rest of the world.

Get your tickets for the Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert
The Department of Music will host its 35th annual Percussion Ensemble Halloween Concert at 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Mabry Concert Hall. That’s next week, but you can get your tickets this week to the popular event.
Admission to the Halloween concert is two cans of food, which will be donated to Loaves and Fishes, or $5. Tickets go on sale Oct. 16, and the event usually sells out. For tickets, drop off the cans of food at the music office, Room 139 of the Music/Mass Communication Building, or purchase them online at .

Govs men’s basketball hosts exhibition
The Govs will host Union (Tennessee) for an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Dunn Center. Click for more.
The women’s team hosts its exhibition against Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Softball fall practice ends with Red & Black World Series
Austin Peay State University's softball team will conclude its fall team workouts this week at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field as the Governors hold their annual Red and Black World Series.
The three-game series between two squads of Govs players will begin Monday afternoon and run through Wednesday, with Thursday being a rain-day makeup if needed. All games in the series are scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.

Govs soccer to host Eastern Illinois
The Govs will be back in action when they host Eastern Illinois for a 6 p.m. Friday game. On Sunday the Governors will wrap up the regular season when they travel to Belmont for a 2 p.m. game.
The Govs sit in seventh place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with the top eight teams qualifying for the tournament.

‘Do it’ exhibit continues
Austin Peay State University’s 10-week run of the international “do it” exhibit continues at The New Gallery in the Art + Design building on campus. The exhibit runs through Dec. 6.
“Do it” is a 26-year global phenomenon that is a compendium of 400 written instructions by artists interpreted anew every time they are enacted. The New Gallery will have 22 sets of instructions by artists such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Adrian Piper, Yoko Ono, Alison Knowles, Sol LeWitt, David Lynch and Joan Jonas.
