Chautauqua Institution artist, author Sharon Louden to visit Austin Peay

Sharon Louden鈥檚 鈥淲indows.鈥 Louden will give a public lecture about her work 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Room 120 of the Art + Design building at Austin Peay.

The Department of Art + Design, with support from the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome artist, author and new director of the Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution Sharon Louden to Austin Peay State University.

鈥淪haron Louden鈥檚 visit to Austin Peay will be a special one,鈥 Michael Dickins, gallery director for The New Gallery, said. 鈥淎long with her evening lecture, where she will talk about her work and artistic practice, she will be visiting with students and learning more about our program. She will be conducting studio visits with individual students, and as the editor of the Living and Sustaining a Creative Life series of books, she will be visiting with our senior capstone class to discuss life after graduation. Louden鈥檚 energy is infectious, and I am excited for our students to have one-on-one time with her.鈥

Louden graduated with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Yale University School of Art. Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues, including the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, the Drawing Center, Carnegie Mellon University, Weisman Art Museum, National Gallery of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Louden鈥檚 work is held in major public and private collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, National Gallery of Art, Neuberger Museum of Art, Arkansas Arts Center, Yale University Art Gallery, Weatherspoon Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.

Her work has also been written about in The New York TimesArt in AmericaThe Washington PostSculpture Magazine, ARTnews and The Philadelphia Inquirer, as well as other publications. She has participated in residencies at Tamarind Institute, Urban Glass, Franconia Sculpture Park, Society of the Four Arts and Art Omi.

Louden鈥檚 lecture will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.14, in Room 120 of the Art + Design building.
