Acclaimed poet Marcus Wicker to speak at Austin Peay

Critically acclaimed poet Marcus Wicker will visit Austin Peay State University as part of the Zone 3 Reading Series, reading from his works at 8 p.m. Feb. 7. 

Wicker has won several recognitions, including a Ruth Lilly Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation and a Pushcart Prize. 

His first collection 鈥淢aybe the Saddest Thing鈥 was a National Poetry Series winner and finalist for an NAACP Image Award.

His second book, 鈥淪ilencer,鈥 also was an Image Award finalist and won the Society of Midland Authors Award and the Arnold Adoff Poetry Award for New Voices.

Publisher鈥檚 Weekly describes 鈥淪ilencer鈥 this way: 鈥淭hese fiercely lyrical narratives stand in the crosshairs of the political moment.鈥

Wicker teaches in the MFA program at the University of Memphis, and he is the poetry editor of Southern Indiana Review. 

Wicker鈥檚 reading will be in Room 120 of the Art + Design Building on campus. 

All Zone 3 Reading Series events are free and open to the public. A book signing and reception will follow the reading.
