Sarah has been working to fight COVID-19 at New York hospitals.

Sarah Sullivan has always wanted to help people. On top of that, nursing runs in the family. “My parents, sisters and half of my cousins are all nurses,” she said.

When Sullivan was choosing a school for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she knew it had to be Austin Peay. The program met her expectations and was a perfect fit for her personality. And the program was online; she could complete the program while working at a behavioral health hospital in El Paso, Texas, where she lives with her husband and five kids.

“I loved everything that I read about their program.”

The classes, being dubbed as “stringent” by Sullivan, have helped her to succeed in her field with the help of her teachers.

“I haven’t had a bad experience in any class. The instructors have all been accessible, more than willing to help. If you need tutoring, their doors are open,” Sullivan said.

A broadened horizon from the program has helped her with her interpersonal skills and to become a leader, which she used while helping out in New York to fight COVID-19 recently. Sullivan cared for people with acute respiratory distress who need intubation before going to the intensive care unit.

After graduating with her bachelor’s, Sullivan will turn her sights to Austin Peay’s Master of Science in Nursing, also offered primarily online.

“My biggest advice for any program, do your research, take it seriously, and try to get as much out of it as you possibly can. Take the pain, and it is going to be much better out the other side.”
