APSU Department of Music to hold Oct. 31 panel discussion on music therapy degree program
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — On Tuesday, Oct. 31, join the Austin Peay State University Department of Music for a panel discussion on music therapy and the career opportunities available with a degree in music therapy.
The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 12:45 p.m. in Heydel Hall, room 120, in the Art + Design Building.
A newer area of study, music therapists assess emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities and cognitive skills through methods including musical listening, performing and discussion.
Rapidly growing in popularity among music students, a music therapy degree can provide opportunities to work in psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitative facilities, medical hospitals, outpatient clinics and day care treatment centers, among many other health and educational facilities.
LaDonna Young, dean of humanities, social sciences and mathematics at Southwest Tennessee Community College, will lead the discussion, joined by professional music therapists and APSU Department of Music faculty.
