As a part of the 2015 Austin Peay State University Homecoming week of events, the APSU Govs Programming Council (GPC) presents a concert featuring national recording artists MKTO, featuring special guest Muddy Magnolias.
The concert takes place Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center on the University campus. Tickets are $20, and may be purchased online at .
MKTO are the initials of band members Malcolm Kelley (MK) and Tony Oller (TO). The duo met in 2010 in California while filming the Nickelodeon show 鈥淕igantic.鈥 Between takes on set, the pair learned about a shared interest in music, and of each other鈥檚 dream of starting a band. Three years later, the pair signed with Columbus Records, and released their first single, 鈥淭hank You.鈥
Success continued as the song reached #38 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart and was an international hit, cracking the top ten single charts in both Australia and New Zealand. In January 2014, the band released its self-debut album.
Taking the stage before MKTO is Nashville-based country duo, Muddy Magnolias. Crowned as the 鈥淐MA Fest鈥檚 Best Unsigned Duo鈥 in 2014 by Rolling Stone Country, Muddy Magnolias is a power pair of female performers Jessy Wilson and Kallie North.
Described as 鈥渁 sound that melds city grit and Delta dirt, exploding onstage not like two lead singers but more like parts of the same whole ... performed as if Mick Jagger and Keith Richards inhabited the Indigo Girls," Muddy Magnolias recently signed with I.R.S. Records Nashville, and is currently recording their debut album.
Thursday鈥檚 concert is just one of the many events that will take place the week of Oct. 19-24 in celebration of APSU Homecoming: Red Tie Affair.
