APSU Choral Activities presents Fall Choral Concert, Choir Fest in October
This fall is shaping up to be another busy semester for Austin Peay State University Choral Activities, as current APSU students will display their talents, while hundreds of young music students from across the state will get a chance to experience what the University has to offer.
This fall is shaping up to be another busy semester for Austin Peay State University Choral Activities, as current APSU students will display their talents, while hundreds of young music students from across the state will get a chance to experience what the University has to offer.
At 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, the Clarksville community will get their first chance this year to hear the University鈥檚 talented group of singers with a concert at the campus鈥 George & Sharon Mabry Concert Hall. The Fall Choral Concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature both choral groups performing an eclectic array of music, as well as a choral union performance of both groups.
Individually, the Chamber Singers, APSU鈥檚 premier choral ensemble, will perform two songs in the Hebrew language, while the University Choir, APSU鈥檚 largest choral ensemble, will perform a pair of contemporary English language songs, accompanied by an APSU graduate student and flautist.
The concert will conclude with the two groups coming together in choral union to perform 鈥淏allade to the Moon,鈥 a piece composed by Nashville-based composer Daniel Elder.
Two days before that concert, on Oct. 20, APSU Choral Activities will host Choir Fest on campus, which brings public school students from Middle Tennessee and Kentucky to APSU to participate in choral singing and education.
Dr. Korre Foster, APSU director of choral activities and associate professor music, said he expects record-breaking participation with over 500 students to attend the event.
鈥淐hoir Fest brings both middle and high school students together on campus for a day-long series of events and an opportunity to see what we do at Austin Peay,鈥 Foster said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a very important recruiting opportunity for us, and it also gives our students a chance to teach and work with high school and middle school students.鈥
The day will culminate with a concert featuring both APSU students and visiting students at 4:30 p.m. in the George & Sharon Mabry Concert Hall. Admission to the performance is free.
The choral program also will host additional performances this November and December. Information on those events will be released in a few weeks.
