Sherryl Byrd, vice president for Student Affairs, and Tim Hurst, assistant vice president for Finance, recently served as members of Off-Site Reaffirmation Committees in Atlanta for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states with the mission of assuring the educational quality and improving the effectives of its member institutions. Off-Site Committees are comprised of peer reviewers from similar type institutions and use collective judgment to make the initial evaluation of compliance with the standards. This information is then used by the On-Site Reaffirmation Committee responsible for the campus visit and final recommendation to the SACSCOC Committee on Compliance and Reports and, ultimately, the Executive Council. All institutions accredited by the SACSCOC are reviewed in 10-year cycles.
