CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 鈥淚t will be a massive, massive sound,鈥 John Schnettler, director of Athletic Bands at Austin Peay State University, said.

He was referring to the upcoming 鈥淢ass Band鈥 performance at 4:30 pm. on Saturday, Oct. 25, when more than 1,200 band students will perform together inside APSU鈥檚 Governors Stadium.

鈥淭his will be a one-shot deal,鈥 Schnettler said. 鈥淭here will be 21 high school marching bands from middle and west Tennessee here, but we don鈥檛 get to rehearse together. Each band will rehearse the music on their own, and then they鈥檒l come together to perform with the APSU Governors鈥 Own Marching Band.鈥

The high school students will be on campus this Saturday to participate in the Mid-South Marching Invitational 鈥 an annual high school marching band competition hosted by the APSU Department of Music. Each marching band will perform its halftime show for a panel of judges. Later that night, the top 10 bands will move on to a finals round. The high school students will gain valuable experience from the competition, but they鈥檒l also get an up-close look at the APSU campus.

鈥淔or a lot of students, this is their first visit here,鈥 Schnettler said. 鈥淭hey get to perform in the new stadium, so it makes a great first impression.鈥

The 鈥淢ass Band鈥 performance will also leave an impression on the students, by allowing them to create a powerful sound with APSU鈥檚 marching band. That performance is open to the public. Tickets, which are $10 for the preliminary competition and $10 for the finals that evening, will be available at the gate of Governors Stadium. Children under 12 get in free.
