CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Artist Jennifer Oliphant wants to create a new appreciation for the beauty of everyday objects. That鈥檚 what she has in mind when she sets out to capture images with her camera.

鈥淢y inspiration for these projects comes from finding gratitude everyday,鈥 she said. 鈥淚n finding things to be grateful for, I also began to notice extreme beauty in objects that mostly go unnoticed. Details, not the whole, are what are important to me at this time in my life.鈥

On Oct. 8, a new exhibit of Oliphant鈥檚 work, titled 鈥淓tcetera,鈥 will open in Gallery 108 in the Austin Peay State University Trahern Building. The artist has picked  simple but beautiful pieces for this show that pull the viewer deep into the details of everyday scenes and objects.

The title 鈥淓tcetera鈥 was chosen for this exhibit because it is a continuation of Oliphant鈥檚 previous work, work that she has continued and pieces she hopes to improve upon in the future. The works express her desire to bring the observer closer to objects by accentuating details or limiting them. Ultimately Oliphant wants the viewer to decide where to find the beauty.

The exhibition runs through Oct. 11, and will end with a closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening with the artist. For more information on this or upcoming exhibits, contact the APSU Department of Art at 221-7333.
