APSU music professor Robinson-Oturu to perform in Hopkinsville on Saturday
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Acclaimed soprano and Austin Peay State University professor of music Gail Robinson-Oturu will join composer and pianist Roland Carter at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 for a special concert, 鈥淢usic of the Heart,鈥 at the Alhambra Theatre in Hopkinsville, Ky. The event, sponsored by the Pennyroyal Arts Council, will kick off that community鈥檚 Alhambra Concert Series.

Before joining the APSU faculty, Robinson-Oturu served as coordinator of vocal studies and director of the opera workshop at Bethune-Cookman College in Dayton, Fla. She was a visiting scholar at Harvard University, where she began research on African-Americans in mainstream Opera in the United States. She has performed on numerous local, regional, national and international stages, including a performance with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Carter was named the Ruth S. Holmberg Professor of American Music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is a leading figure in choral arts, spearheading concerts with major choruses and orchestras in prestigious venues nationwide. In 2004, he was elected to honorary membership of the internationally acclaimed Morehouse Glee Club.
