'Building Businesses' workshop series to be held at APSU

Beginning this month, Austin Peay State University will join several local organizations to offer a series of workshops to help those wanting to begin a new small business.

Called 鈥淏uilding Businesses: A Small Business Workshop Series,鈥 the sessions will begin April 17, continuing on various Tuesdays throughout the year.

The series is presented by First Advantage Bank and the APSU Center for Extended and Distance Education, and is sponsored by Five Star Radio, The Leaf-Chronicle and the Tennessee Small Business Development Center.

All of the sessions are free, but reservations are required. Individuals may choose to register for one or all sessions. Continuing education units will be awarded for each session completed.

The sessions will be held from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Morgan University Center on the APSU main campus.

Here is a brief description of each workshop:

April 17: Owning Your Own Business

Explore business planning, franchise opportunities, financing and more.

June 12: Writing a Business Plan

Establish a plan for success, examining fundamentals such as marketing and finance.

Aug. 7: Marketing and Social Media for Small Business

Determine your target market and learn how to reach them through the top five social media sites.

Oct. 23: Starting an Internet Business

Study the six building blocks of Internet business.

Nov. 6, 13, 20: QuickBooks Pro Training 101: Understanding the Very Basics

Learn how to get the most out of your QuickBooks software.

Nov. 20, 27, Dec. 4: Intermediate QuickBooks

Build on your QuickBooks knowledge, learning to use the software for payroll, inventory and more.
