Marissa Chandler, director of TRiO Student Support Services, recently presented at the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) regional conference in Jacksonville, Fla. The workshop was titled 鈥淭he Effects of Learning Styles and Online Education on Low-Income and First-Generation College Students.鈥 Chandler will graduate in May from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville with a doctorate in leadership and professional practice.
Larry Hoehn, emeritus professor of mathematics, had his article, 鈥淭he Isosceles Trapezoid and its Dissecting Similar Triangles,鈥 published in the latest issue of Forum Geometricorum. The Forum is the premier international online journal of Euclidean Geometry. It is his 89th publication in mathematics and his second since retiring. Connie Sanders, director of the Child Learning Center, was a presenter at the South Central Association for the Education of Young Children Annual Conference in Shelbyville, Tenn., on Saturday, March 17. The topic was how the Tennessee Early Education Standards are used in the block center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms.
Dr. Carter F. Smith and Dr. Jeffrey P. Rush, faculty in the APSU Department of Public Management and Criminal Justice, attended the 49th annual meeting of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in New York City, March 13-17. Smith chaired a panel, titled "Policing in Campus Contexts," presenting a paper addressing student and police perceptions of gang members on college campuses. He also participated in a panel, titled "Current Research in Security and Private Policing," presenting a paper on student perceptions of the security administration field.
Rush co-chaired the Homeland Security Issues Committee and moderated the roundtable, titled 鈥淐urrent Issues in Private Security.鈥 Both Rush and Smith participated in a roundtable discussion, titled "Flashmobs: Gangs 2.0?" moderated by Rush.
