鈥淚 am absolutely honored and excited to be playing a duet with him,鈥 Wang said. 鈥淗e transfixes audiences with his playing,鈥 Wang said. 鈥淭hey tend to forget that he is playing a clarinet because he brings the music to the foreground.  The clarinet just seems to disappear. Shifrin brings an incomparable elegance to the stage with his artistry, virtuosity, and nuance.鈥

Shifrin has received critical acclaim, appearing at such venues as Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times described him as 鈥渇irst among equals鈥 and his playing as 鈥渓uminous 鈥 complemented ideally by鈥s. Chien鈥檚 buoyant touch.鈥

Shifrin has served as principal clarinetist with the Cleveland Orchestra and American Symphony Orchestra and collaborates frequently with such distinguished ensembles and artists as the Guarneri, Tokyo and Emerson String Quartets, Wynton Marsalis and pianists Emanuel Ax and Andre Watts.

He will also lead a master class with APSU clarinet students on Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
