APSU hosts annual Bowl-a-thon Oct. 8 to raise awareness about hunger and food security
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Anyone interested in creating a unique piece of art while helping out a worthy cause needs to stop by the ceramics area in the Austin Peay State University Trahern Building from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 8 for the annual Bowl-a-Thon event.
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Anyone interested in creating a unique piece of art while helping out a worthy cause needs to stop by the ceramics area in the Austin Peay State University Trahern Building from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 8 for the annual Bowl-a-Thon event.
The purpose of the Bowl-a-Thon, hosted by APSU associate professor of ceramics Ken Shipley, is to produce a number of bowls for the Empty Bowls project. According to that organization鈥檚 website, Empty Bowls seeks 鈥渢o raise money to help organizations fight hunger, to raise awareness about the issues of hunger and food security, and to help bring about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.鈥
The project, in conjunction with artists and art organizations, produces the bowls, which are donated to the Urban Ministries of Clarksville. Participants are welcome to come the full duration, or for as much as they are capable, with any attendance thoroughly appreciated. Those persons attending who are not capable of 鈥渢hrowing鈥 the bowls will be taught handmade methods on site.
