3 APSU faculty members achieve recognitions

Three faculty members at Austin Peay State University recently brought recognition to the University through their professional activities.
Dr. Ellen Kanervo, professor emeritus of communication, received the Citizen of the Year award in late 2010 by the city of Clarksville. She was recognized for her contributions as a teacher and volunteer for several committees in the community. Committees on which she has served include the Academic Council, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council and the Downtown District Partnership. She has taught at APSU since 1977, serving eight years as chair of the APSU Department of Communication, and has earned a number of distinctions and honors, including the APSU Distinguished Professor Award and the Southeast Journalism Conference Outstanding Journalism Educator in the Southeast.
Dr. Chinyere Ogbonna-McGruder, associate professor of public management and criminal justice, had work on her corrections policy research that examines drug policy and incarceration of women in Tennessee published in the December 2010 International Journal of Social Health Information Management.
Dr. Gregg Steinberg, professor of health and human performance, was interviewed for an article about sportsmanship in the March 2011 issue of Men鈥檚 Health magazine. He is the author of three books: 鈥淔ull Throttle,鈥 鈥淢ental Rules for Golf鈥 and 鈥淔lying Lessons.鈥 He also is a frequent media personality on national television networks such as CNN and the Golf Channel to speak about the mindset of an athletic champion.
