APSU's Yates to Give Guitar Recital Oct. 5

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Austin Peay State University guitar professor Dr. Stanley Yates will perform a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 5, in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

His program will include rarely heard guitar works from 19th century Paris and Vienna by Anton Diabelli, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Fernando Sor and Napoleon Coste.

His program will include rarely heard guitar works from 19th century Paris and Vienna by Anton Diabelli, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Fernando Sor and Napoleon Coste.

Yates鈥 performances have taken him throughout Europe and the United States. He has been described as "one of an elite breed of guitarists" (Classical Guitar Magazine), "one of the premier exponents of 20th-century music for the classical guitar" (The Rosette, Los Angeles), "transcendent" (Fort Worth Star Telegram), 鈥渃ompelling and technically flawless鈥 (American Record Guide) and 鈥渙ne of the most accomplished pedagogues of our era鈥 (Soundboard Magazine).

Most recently, he has completed a recording of 19th century works for guitar and orchestra, and he is featured in the new book, 鈥淚nstrumental Influences: Reflections on the Classical Guitar by the World's Outstanding Classical Guitar Performers.鈥
