The Austin Peay Center @ Fort Campbell will continue to offer associate degree programs, thanks to an exception granted by the Tennessee Board of Regents recently.
The decision follows a nearly decade-long restructure in the state that moved most associate degree programs from four-year universities to community colleges.
Austin Peay State University, however, was in a special situation, according to Gerald Beavers, executive director of the Austin Peay Center @ Fort Campbell. 鈥淲hile it is a four-year institution, the unique needs of the student body served by its Fort Campbell campus 鈥 including transient soldiers and their families 鈥 necessitate the offering of two-year programs.鈥
Recognizing the center's unique population, TBR and Tennessee Higher Education Commission officials allowed its two-year programs, such as police science and computer technology, to stay on the curriculum.
鈥淎PSU and the Fort Campbell Center are committed to helping our students with superb services and academic opportunities,鈥 said Beavers. 鈥淲e are thrilled to be able to continue doing that for our active duty soldiers, dependents, retirees and the Clarksville and Southern Kentucky communities with our associate degree courses.鈥
Associate degree programs at the Austin Peay Center @ Fort Campbell include automotive technology, computer science technology, construction technology, electronics technology, management (business) technology, police science and secretarial procedures.
Bachelor's degrees also are offered in engineering technology, public management and professional studies.
Registration for the Fall II term runs Monday, Sept. 30 鈥 Thursday, Oct. 3. Late registration is Friday, Oct. 4.
