Now until Jan. 28, APSU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate winter clothes in a Coat Drive Competition against Eastern Kentucky University students, faculty and staff. All new or gently used winter items will be accepted, but only coats will be counted in the competition. The university with more coats donated will be announced at the home basketball games against EKU on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Dunn Center.
Tip-off for the Lady Govs game against EKU will be at 5:15 p.m., with men's basketball to follow at 7:30 p.m. Both contests are 鈥渂lackout鈥 games, meaning fans are encouraged to wear black. In addition, Jan. 28 is Youth Night. Children 12 years of age and younger will receive $1 admission.
On Jan. 30 in the Dunn Center, the Coming Home celebration continues with home games against Morehead (Ky.) State University. Women's action begins at 5:15 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. The games are 鈥渨hiteout鈥 games, and fans are encouraged to wear white.
Jan. 30 also is coach Dave Loos Appreciation Night sponsored by Legend's Bank. Now in his 20th season as APSU's basketball coach, Loos will be recognized for his accomplishments prior to the mean's game. He recorded his 400th career victory when the Governors defeated Southeast Missouri on Dec. 3, 2009.
Six days later, the Govs shattered Ohio's 30-game non-conference home winning streak by defeating the Bobcats, 68-66. The victory was the 320th APSU victory for Loos, allowing him to move past Cal Luther (Murray State from 1958-74 and UT Martin, 1992-99) for most wins while coaching in the Ohio Valley Conference.
"I have not said a lot about it, but I am proud of this mark," Loos said. "It is not about one person. It is about all the quality players we have had, the assistant coaches who have worked here, the four presidents who have supported this program and the loyal fans of Austin Peay basketball. There are so many people who share in this record." -- Melony Shemberger
