APSU among 87 locations nationwide to show 1st-ever librarian documentary film
Austin Peay State University will be among 87 locations across the U.S. and Canada to screen the documentary film, The Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians Through Film.Two showings of the new film are scheduled at APSU. The first will be at 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30 and the other at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1. Both will be in the Morgan University Center, Room 303.
Cost to attend is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and children.

In addition to libraries in 31 U.S. states, the film will be shown at six locations in Canada and one in Bermuda.
The 2007 documentary delves into the real work and skills of the more than 60,000 librarians working in the U.S. It weaves together documentary footage and interviews with movie clips of often-stereotypical librarians. The filmmakers expect the documentary to find a broad audience, given the fact that libraries receive more than 1 billion visits each year.
鈥淛ust about everyone has a childhood librarian story,鈥 Ann Seidl, a librarian and the writer and director of the 96-minute film, said in the film's promotional materials.
The release of 鈥淭he Hollywood Librarian鈥 coincides with the annual American intellectual freedom celebration known as Banned Books Week, Sept. 29-Oct. 6. The documentary includes scenes about how John Steinbeck's books were burned during the 1930s, the controversial Patriot Act and an interview with Ray Bradbury.
