APSU administrator promoted to vice president
Dr. Sherryl Byrd, who came to Austin Peay State University more than three years ago as the associate vice president of student affairs, has been named the Universitys new vice president of student affairs.A native of Wilson County, she began her new position Jan. 1, 2010.
President Tim Hall formally announced Byrds selection in an e-mail to faculty, staff and students. A search committee chose Byrd after interviewing three other top candidates.

Prior to arriving at APSU, Byrd was assistant vice chancellor of student affairs at Auburn University-Montgomery (Ala.), the metropolitan campus of Auburn University, for nine years.
Byrd earned both her master's and bachelor's degrees from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville. She received her doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Alabama.
The vice president for student affairs is responsible for providing leadership and vision for the division which includes Counseling and Health Services; Housing, Residence Life and Dining Services; Disability Services; Office of the Dean of Students; Greek Life; Student Government Association; Student Life and Leadership; University Recreation; Student Publications; Parent and Family Programs; Child Learning Center; Student Conduct; and the African American and Hispanic Cultural Centers.
Most recently, Byrd was installed as president of the Southern Association of College Student Affairs (SACSA). She completed a term as president-elect and will serve a year as past president for a three-year commitment as a member of the Executive Council.
In addition to SACSA, Byrd is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and was selected as a 2009 International Exchange Program delegate to the United Kingdom. She also is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Clarksville. -- Melony Shemberger
