These might sound like the questions of a soap opera, but they're actually the ones posed by Kurt Weill's stunning opera, “Street Scene.”
AP Opera Theatre will perform the show, set in a New York tenement building in the 1930s, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 24, and 3 p.m., Sunday, April 24, in the Music/Mass Communication Building concert theatre, APSU.
The opera is based on a play by Elmer Rice with lyrics by Rice and Langston Hughes.
“This is one of the largest casts we have had in AP Opera Theatre, and we have involved several faculty and children from the community,” says Dr. Allen Henderson, stage director and associate professor of music at APSU. “In addition to the fine singing of our students, one of the highlights of the production will be professionally designed sets rented from the Des Moines Metro Opera.”
Tickets are $8 adults and $5 students. The Music Ticket Office will be open 3-6 p.m., April 21-22, and one hour before each performance.
