Annual AP Day draws largest crowd ever
At AP Day Saturday, Oct. 8, more high school students than ever in history got a crash course on college life at Austin Peay State University. After a 9 a.m. check-in, the day began with a welcome from APSU President Sherry Hoppe. Previously, she has been able to greet all guests in one location.
This was the first time we had so many that we had to begin the day with half of them in the University Center Ballroom and half in Clement Auditorium, Hoppe said. It seems to me our marketing and recruiting efforts are paying off.

Almost 700 guests attended AP Day. According to Amy Deaton, assistant director of admissions, the number of prospective students this fall increased by about 40, with 60 more parents attending this year than attended last fall.
Participants talked with faculty about academic majors and departments and enjoyed sessions on financial aid, student services and organizations, admissions, scholarships, residence life and commuter life. A special session was held for parents.
鈥淲e had people here from Memphis to Johnson City, from Knoxville to Southern Tennessee,鈥 Deaton said. She also noted strong attendance by out-of-state students, including those from Kentucky and South Carolina.
According to Deaton, the increased freshmen enrollment the past two years has enabled more people to hear about Austin Peay, plus she said recruitment efforts have been extensive.
Deaton said, 鈥淲e heard so many positive comments throughout the dayfrom how organized the event was to 鈥業 was not considering APSU, but this day has been wonderful.'鈥
