Alumnae, mother and daughter duo, pen award-winning novel

Two Austin Peay alumnae recently received national recognition for their collaborative efforts.

Lady in Waiting, a historical romance novel by Nicole Byrd, was chosen for the coveted Golden Quill Award by the Romance Writers of America, Desert Rose Chapter, for Best Historical of 2002.

Nicole Byrd is a pseudonym for the mother-daughter writing team of Michelle Wasden Place and Cheryl Byrd Zach, both of Franklin, Tenn. The duo was presented the award during the recent Romance Writers of America Conference in New York City.

鈥淟ady in Waiting,鈥 a historical romance novel by 鈥淣icole Byrd,鈥 was chosen for the coveted Golden Quill Award by the Romance Writers of America, Desert Rose Chapter, for Best Historical of 2002.

鈥淣icole Byrd鈥 is a pseudonym for the mother-daughter writing team of Michelle Wasden Place and Cheryl Byrd Zach, both of Franklin, Tenn. The duo was presented the award during the recent Romance Writers of America Conference in New York City.

Place earned a bachelor's degree in English from APSU in 1995. Her mother has two APSU degreesa bachelor's degree in 1968 and a master's degree in 1976, both in English.

鈥淟ady in Waiting,鈥 another historical romantic suspense novel, is a sequel to the authors' first book, 鈥淒ear Imposter,鈥 and continues the adventures of the Hill sistersPsyche and Circe.

A review of 鈥淟ady in Waiting鈥 in 鈥淧ublishers Weekly鈥 said, 鈥淏yrd's unpretentious writing and sense of humor render this a delicious read.鈥

Byrd's newest book, 鈥淲idow in Scarlet,鈥 will be in area bookstores in September, after release by the publisher, Berkley/Jove, a division of Penguin Putnam, New York City.
