Alumna returns as assistant director of bands
August 26, 2003A 1997 graduate of Austin Peay State University has returned to her alma mater this fall as assistant director of bands.
Andrea E. Brown, a former resident of Milan, Tenn., will direct the Governors Marching Band and the Governors Basketball Pep Band.
During her undergraduate years at APSU, Brown was chosen as the 1997 recipient of the Madame Governor Award and was named Outstanding Student in Music her senior year.

A 1997 graduate of Austin Peay State University has returned to her alma mater this fall as assistant director of bands.
Andrea E. Brown, a former resident of Milan, Tenn., will direct the Governors Marching Band and the Governors Basketball Pep Band.
During her undergraduate years at APSU, Brown was chosen as the 1997 recipient of the Madame Governor Award and was named 鈥淥utstanding Student in Music鈥 her senior year.
She earned a master of music degree in horn performance and a master of music education degree in instrumental conducting from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG), where she studied with Dr. John Locke and served as director of the University Band.
While a graduate student at UNCG, Brown was a member of the AA Brass Quintet, which won the 2001 International Brass Quintet Competition. She has performed with the North Carolina Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Long Bay Symphony and Brevard Music Center Orchestra.
In addition to teaching public school in both Wisconsin and Texas, Brown was a member of the brass faculty of the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps for three years.
She holds memberships in the Tennessee Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference and College Band Directors National Association. She also was tapped to membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda and was awarded the Rose of Honor from Sigma Alpha Iota Women's Music Fraternity.
Brown is married to Eric Willie, who earned a bachelor's degree in music education from APSU in 1998. Currently, he is completing a doctorate in musical arts (percussion) at the University of North Texas.
