Pratt Museum, Fort Campbell, Ky., and John O'Brien, head of historical programs at the museum and an adjunct faculty member at Austin Peay State University, recently received the Army Historical Foundation's 2006 Museum Award for Excellence for the museum's collaborative internship program with APSU.
In the August/September edition of Army Museum Memo, Jody Davis, vice president of the Army Historical Foundation, said, 鈥淭he award recognizes the achievement of the museum in initiating and maintaining an outstanding internship program worthy of emulation by other museums.鈥
鈥淲e've been sending history students to the museum as interns for several years now,鈥 said Dr. Dewey Browder, chair of the department of history and philosophy.
鈥淢r. O'Brien has developed a fine program of instruction that combines the studies of museum methods with hands-on experience.鈥
According to Browder, this honor is another example of the outstanding working and educational relationship between APSU and Fort Campbell.
Noting that several APSU faculty lectured and otherwise participated in last year's award-winning Living On program at the Customs House 脙楼Museum and Cultural Center, Clarksville, Browder said, 鈥淎ustin Peay is doing its part to support the museums in our area.鈥
