The All State named 10th Best College Newspaper in the South
Austin Peays student newspaper, The All State, was honored as the 10th Best College Newspaper in the South during the 18th Annual Southeast Journalism Conference.Four students also were recognized for their individual achievements at the conference, which was held Feb. 21-23 at Troy State University in Troy, Ala.
Students participating in the conference were able to compete in 24 categories. The All State and the APSU department of communication and theatre entered 11.

Austin Peay competed against 57 other schools across seven states, including many of the top schools of journalism and mass communication.
In individual categories:
•Josie Swisher, a communication student, won first place for Best Journalism Research Paper, as well as first place in the On-Site Media Law contest.
•Cheryl Hunter-Grah, editor-in-chief of The All State, took second place in On-Site Public Relations, as well as fifth place in the Best Opinion-Editorial Writer category.
•Melinda Simmons, news editor for The All State, earned fifth place honors for Best Newspaper Page Layout Designer.
•Martin Fox, editorial cartoonist for The All State, placed ninth in Best News-Editorial Artist/Illustrator.
The competition judges included representatives from the Poynter Institute, The Jackson (Tenn.) Sun, The Pensacola (Fla.) News Journal, and The News (Birmingham, Ala.).
