Acuna headlines 43rd Annual Mid-South Jazz Festival

Austin Peay is ushering in the 2004 jazz season with its 43rd Annual Mid-South Jazz Festival.

The concert theatre of the mass/music communication building will sizzle each night at 7:30 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, April 15-17, as part of the Rivers & Spires Festival and the APSU/Clarksville Community Concert Artist Series.

The Jazz Fest includes three days of the best jazz around, says Dr. Allen Henderson, president of the concert series board and associate professor of music.

鈥淭he Jazz Fest includes three days of the best jazz around,鈥 says Dr. Allen Henderson, president of the concert series board and associate professor of music.

Thursday's concert will feature Nashville jazz vocalist Sandra Dudley of The Jazz Orchestra of The Delta. Dudley is known for her exuberant stage presence, sophisticated scatting ability and tender ballad interpretations.

Friday's concert will feature the APSU Jazz Combo, directed by David Steinquest, and the APSU Jazz Collegians, directed by Richard Steffen.

The series culminates Saturday evening with a performance by rising star Claudia Acu脙卤a. The Washington Post declares the Chilean singer's voice as one of 鈥渃onsiderable power, agility and poise,鈥 while New York Newsday calls it 鈥渢he voice of an angel.鈥

Tickets for Saturday's concert are $25 adults, $12 students and children and include free festival admission. Full-time APSU students are admitted free with current student ID. General admission for Thursday and Friday is $3. The Music Ticket Office will be open 3-6 p.m., Monday-Friday, April 12-16, and one hour before each concert.
