Accounting faculty member attends the Japanese Studies Fellowship
An Austin Peay State University accounting professor was one of 19 college and university faculty members from across the U.S. awarded the 2008 Japan Studies Institute Fellowship, held June 2-20 at San Diego State University in California.Dr. Hassan Said, associate professor of accounting in the APSU School of Business, attended various sessions during the fellowship, which focused on incorporating Japanese studies into the undergraduate curriculum.
An Austin Peay State University accounting professor was one of 19 college and university faculty members from across the U.S. awarded the 2008 Japan Studies Institute Fellowship, held June 2-20 at San Diego State University in California.
Dr. Hassan Said, associate professor of accounting in the APSU School of Business, attended various sessions during the fellowship, which focused on incorporating Japanese studies into the undergraduate curriculum.
Every day throughout the fellowship, fellows attended sessions on the Japanese language. Other workshops included topics on the Japanese language, Japanese classical music, arts in Japan, business and tourism in Japan, trends in Japan's foreign policy, problems in Japan's current economic system and social issues.
At the end of the three-week program, each fellow had to present a project. The project discussed how interest in Japan could be encouraged in each fellow's academic fields.
The Japan Studies Institute is part of the National Faculty Development Institute sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. -- Melony A. Jones
