Faculty and staff from academic advisement, admissions, the registrar's office and Austin Peay's Center @ Fort Campbell converged on Columbia State March 5 for a pre- advisement session designed to boost the number of transfers from that school.
"We talked to 20 students who expressed an interest in transferring to Austin Peay," says Marissa Chandler, interim director of academic advisement. "Each student was able to meet with an adviser and get a transcript evaluation done."
The goal was to streamline the pre-admissions process and ease the students' transition from the community college to a four-year university.
The program was viewed as a resounding success, one Chandler hopes will be repeated and expanded. "The goal for next year is to hold additional pre-advisement sessions at all major feeder colleges in the area," she says.
Other faculty or staff interested in participating in the sessions are welcome, she adds. "Just call us and sign up." The number is 7227.
