2 military history profs awarded prestigious summer fellowships
The Austin Peay State University Department of History and Philosophy is gaining a reputation as a rich repository of military history experts.Recently, two assistant professors of historyDr. David R. Snyder and Dr. Christos G. Frentzoslearned they have been selected for plum fellowships during Summer 2007.
Snyder will participate in a seminar at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Penn. He previously received two coveted fellowshipsfrom the Holocaust Education Foundation at Northwestern University and the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.

Recently, two assistant professors of historyDr. David R. Snyder and Dr. Christos G. Frentzoslearned they have been selected for plum fellowships during Summer 2007.
Snyder will participate in a seminar at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Penn. He previously received two coveted fellowshipsfrom the Holocaust Education Foundation at Northwestern University and the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
The fellowship awarded to Frentzos is the 2007 West Point Summer Seminar in Military History. Frentzos will spend most of June at the U.S. Military Academy, taking military history courses, studying significant books, attending lectures by experts in the field, touring local battlefields and conducting research in area archives.
Snyder earned a doctorate in modern European history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002. His master's and bachelor's degrees are from Indiana University. Between 1998-2003, he was selected for six
prestigious fellowships.
Hailed as 鈥済roundbreaking,鈥 Snyder's book, 鈥淪ex Crimes under the Wehrmacht,鈥 will be released in July 2007 by the University of Nebraska Press. His other publications include 鈥淎rming the Bundesmarine: The United States and the Build Up of the German Federal Navy, 1950-1960,鈥 which appeared in the prestigious Journal of Military History in April 2002.
Frentzos earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Houston in 2004. He received both his M.A. and B.A. in history from the University of New Orleans. In 2004, Frentzos received the John O. King Dissertation Fellowship from the University of Houston, the Kennedy Research Grant from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and the Moody Research Grant from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation.
In November 2006, Frentzos attended the International Conference on World War II: The War That Changed the World, which was hosted by The National World War II Museum, New Orleans. He has made presentations to such scholarly bodies as the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations Conference and currently is expanding his dissertation, 鈥淔rom Seoul to Saigon: U.S.-Korean Relations and the Vietnam War,鈥 for publication.
According to Dr. Dewey Browder, chair of the department of history and philosophy and former faculty member at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the West Point Summer Fellowship, which Snyder was awarded in 2003, is 鈥渁 prized opportunity for civilian professors to polish their skills as military historians.鈥
