2 faculty organize silent auction of photographs
Two faculty members at Austin Peay State University have arranged a silent auction of photographs to benefit residents living in an area of rural Mexico.Dr. Matthew Kenney, associate professor of political science, and Susan Bryant, professor of art, organized the event, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at The Downtown Artists Co-op Gallery, located at 96 Franklin St. Admission is free and open to the public.
Two faculty members at Austin Peay State University have arranged a silent auction of photographs to benefit residents living in an area of rural Mexico.
Dr. Matthew Kenney, associate professor of political science, and Susan Bryant, professor of art, organized the event, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at The Downtown Artists Co-op Gallery, located at 96 Franklin St. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event is hosted by the Chiapas Mission, a group of concerned people from Tennessee and Kentucky who provide monthly support to the people of San Pedro Chenalhó, a rural county in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. The main activity will be a silent auction featuring photographs taken by members of the Chiapas Mission who spent 10 days last June in San Pedro Chenalhó.
Most of the photographs in the auction were taken by Bryant, who also is a professional photographer. She and Kenney have traveled to Chiapas on numerous occasions in recent years to work on social justice projects in San Pedro Chenalhó.
All proceeds from the event will be used to fund projects designed to benefit the people of San Pedro Chenalhó.
