2 alumni to serve as honorary festival chairs

The Rivers & Spires Festival began in 2003 as a tribute to the returning soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). The festival will continue to do that this year, featuring patriotic tributes to the troops who returned in November 2006 from their second tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The festival has won awards and accolades from groups such as the Southeast Tourism Society and American Bus Association. Last week, the festival was nominated again for the Southeast Tourism Society's Top 20 Events in the Southeast.
The 2007 Rivers & Spires Festival will feature a number of musical headlines. The Motown band Touch will perform April 19 at the festival kick-off. Grammy Award winner Lee Greenwood will take the stage Friday, April 20, and the country music group, Diamond Rio, will perform Saturday, April 21.
Food and beverage vendors, as well as the popular 鈥淜idz Zone,鈥 will be available.
In addition, the festival's Miss River Queen and Miss River Teen pageants will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 7 in Austin Peay's Clement Auditorium. Both events are official preliminaries to the Miss Tennessee and Miss Tennessee Teen USA pageants in October.
Applications to enter either pageant are due Saturday, March 17.
