1,000-plus students, parents attend AP Day

In the last few weeks, more than 1,000 prospective students and their parents have visited Austin Peay State University as part of AP Day, according to figures from admissions officials.

On Nov. 18, AP Day, designed for high school students interested in attending Austin Peay, attracted 352 students and 456 parents and guests, for a total of 808 people.

AP Day also was held Oct. 28, with 100 students and 152 parents and guests attending. Combined with figures from Nov. 18, a total of 1,060 students and parents came to AP Day in 2006, up from 697 people last year.

Dr. Harriett McQueen, dean of enrollment management and academic support, said she received positive feedback from parents.

鈥淎 number of parents stopped me and told me how much they appreciated what had been done for them that day as well as what APSU is doing to help students be successful,鈥 she said.

In addition to AP Day, prospective students will have a chance to learn more about Austin Peay at any of the following events:
鈥 APSU 2007 Road Shows, allowing prospective students to learn more about Austin Peay at various communities throughout Tennessee, are planned for the following dates: Jan. 23, Nashville; Jan. 25, Ashland City; Jan. 29, Montgomery County; Feb. 5, Memphis; Feb. 6, Jackson; Feb. 12, Chattanooga; Feb. 19, Johnson City; and Feb. 20, Knoxville. 鈥 AP Night, which gives adults an opportunity to learn more about college and careers at Austin Peay, is April 3, 2007.
鈥 Multicultural Outstanding Scholars Advancing Into College (MOSAIC), designed for multicultural high school students interested in attending APSU, is slated for April 14.
鈥 An open house for home-schooled students is planned for May 30.
